Welcome to Benedict Haven

Keeping the Heart in the Home

Benedict Haven, Inc. is a private non-profit residential treatment facility dedicated to providing the highest quality long-term care for adults with persisten mental illnesses.  The home was founded in 1998 by family members, mental health professionals, community leaders, legislators, and local organizations and businesses to fill the void that exists in supervised long-term care for the mentally ill.  By following a small "home-like" model, Benedict Haven has ended the "revolving door" cycle previously experienced by its residents.
Benedict Haven needs your support and donations! Please share from your heart... allowing Benedict Havent to continue to be a safe haven.

Benedict Haven - Making a Difference
Benedict Haven is very proud of the services provided to our residents and for the quality of home it has made available to our residents. Our in-house day treatment program is very successful and different from the routine programs provided in the community.

Our mission also includes an aggressive outreach program. It is our desire to educate the public on mental illness issues to help eliminate the stigma associated with it. The very stigma which discriminates against people with these brain disorders, also hinders legislative support to provide sufficient funding for housing and treatment.

Benedict Haven has been hailed as a role model for other residential facilities. Visitors from other states have come to Benedict Haven to seek assistance in establishing homes of this nature in their communities.

How A Dream Became A Reality!

Another Dream Come True!

I have a dream were the words Dolores Castaldo used in early January 1998, at a NAMI Pinellas County Support Group Meeting, to describe her vision of a permanent residence for persons who have severe and persistent brain disorders. Her words echoed those of many mothers of adult-children who suffer from chronic mental illness. These moms live in daily fear wondering what will become of their loved one when they are no longer here to provide for them.

Dolores' dream of a family home is for those persons who may never be able to live on their own, hold a job, or remember to take their medications. Her concern, shared by many other older parents, is that existing programs require transition back into the community. Unfortunately, there are consumers who will never be able to progress to that level and that is the population she is targeting.

Dolores is not one for idle dreaming, however.   More...
